Slack — Harmony Bot

Before you start

  • Permission to install workspace apps in Harmony, included in the Admin role.
  • Permission to add apps in Slack. If admin approval is required, request it before installing.
  • One Slack workspace per Harmony workspace.

Install Harmony Bot

  1. Open Marketplace → Apps in Harmony.
  2. Open slack-bot (Harmony Bot).
  3. Select Install.
  1. Select Install for everyone in workspace to open Slack authorization. Personal installation is not available.
  2. Check the Slack workspace and permissions, then select Allow.

Harmony Bot appears under Marketplace → Installed after authorization. Direct messages need no further setup.

Allow popups for Harmony, then select Install for everyone in workspace again.

Add Harmony Bot to channels

Invite the bot to each public or private channel where it should post:

  1. Open the channel in Slack.
  2. Send /invite @Harmony Bot.

To remove the bot, open the channel's details → Agents & apps and remove Harmony Bot.

Send a message from the Companion

Include "as Harmony Bot" in your request. Use the recipient's Slack email or a channel name:

  • "Send [email protected] the action items from my last call as Harmony Bot."
  • "Post today's pipeline review recap in #sales-team as Harmony Bot."

Review the message and select Approve before sending. Auto-approved tools skip this step. See Tool approval.

Send messages from an automation

Describe the trigger, recipient and message to the Companion:

  • "When a customer call summary is ready, post it in #customer-calls as Harmony Bot."
  • "Every Friday at 16:00, send me this week's customer calls as Harmony Bot."

See Create an automation.

Automations are active when saved by default. Request a draft to review recipients and messages before switching it on.

Automation permissions

StepWhat to set up
Send direct message as Harmony Bot or Post to a channel as Harmony BotNo additional approval; the step sends the supplied message
Run agentGive the agent the Harmony Bot tool

A Run agent step without the tool stops with Needs permission. Add the tool and select Apply and re-run. See Permission needed.

Message formatting

Default messages support bold, italics, lists and links.

Request a formatted message for headings, side-by-side fields, dividers and link buttons. For example:

  • "Post the call summary in #sales-team as Harmony Bot, with a heading, score and a button linking to the call."

Buttons open links; they do not run actions. Link previews are disabled.

Reconnect or delete the connectionintegrations:update:all, integrations:delete:allAdmin
Send as Harmony Bot from the Companion or an automationintegrations:use:allAdmin

Admins can grant these permissions to other roles in Roles and permissions. Creating automations also requires Studio access.

Manage the connection

Open Marketplace → Installed → slack-bot.

  • Test Connection — check the connection.
  • Re-authenticate — authorize again if Slack revokes access or the app is removed.
  • Delete — disconnect the bot from Harmony. The Companion and automations can no longer send as the bot.

Deleting the connection does not uninstall Harmony Bot from Slack. A Slack admin can remove it in Slack's app management.

To change Slack workspaces, delete the connection and reinstall with the new workspace selected.

Troubleshooting

"Harmony Bot is not a member of this channel"

The bot can only post in channels it has joined. Open the channel in Slack, send /invite @Harmony Bot, then retry. No message was sent.

The person cannot be found

Harmony Bot finds recipients by email in the connected Slack workspace. Use the email on the recipient's Slack profile and check that they belong to that workspace.

"Slack rate-limited Harmony Bot; nothing was sent"

Slack has temporarily limited requests from the bot. No message was sent. Wait for the delay shown in the error, then retry.

"Slack may still have posted the message"

Slack did not confirm delivery. Check the target channel or direct conversation in Slack. Retry only if the message is missing.

The Companion does not offer Harmony Bot

Check Marketplace → Installed for slack-bot. If it is missing, ask a Harmony admin to install it. If it is installed, ask the admin to check your role's permission to use it.

Slack asks you to reconnect

Ask a Harmony admin to open Marketplace → Installed → slack-bot, select Re-authenticate and complete Slack authorization. If the bot is not listed, install it again.

An automation run stopped with Needs permission

The automation's agent needs access to the Harmony Bot tool. Open the stopped run and select Settings next to Run this step as. Add the tool, save, then select Apply and re-run. See Permission needed.
