Hardware
The Hardware tab is where you style the Orb — the animated gradient logo Harmony shows during loading, while Companion is thinking, in the desktop tray icon, and as the Companion floating-window button.
To open this tab, click your avatar at the bottom of the left sidebar → User preferences → Hardware.
The route is /preferences/orb for legacy reasons — the original tab only configured the on-screen Orb. The label changed to Hardware in anticipation of the upcoming Companion One tabletop device, whose physical light ring will use the same gradient you choose here. Today, the tab still only configures the on-screen Orb.
Companion One (coming soon)
The page shows a banner about Companion One, a forthcoming Harmony tabletop device. When it ships, the Orb gradient you choose here will sync to its physical light ring.
Until Companion One launches, this tab affects only the on-screen Orb that already lives across the Harmony web and desktop apps.
Orb gradient presets
Click any preset card to apply it instantly — there's no separate Save button (the explicit Apply button on each card does the same thing).
When you open the Orb customization area, you will see a set of preset gradient styles, each designed to evoke a different mood or feeling.
The default preset, called Harmony One, features a warm gradient that smoothly transitions from dark orange shades to brighter orange highlights. This is Harmony’s signature look and the orb’s appearance throughout the app and in the tray icon will reflect this theme unless you choose something else.
Selecting the Sunset preset transforms the orb into a vibrant spectrum, moving from yellow to amber, then into rich red, back through amber, and returning to yellow — much like the changing colors you see in an evening sky.
If you prefer cooler tones, the Ocean preset offers a seamless flow of cyan into deep blue, reminiscent of the sea shifting from shallow to deep water before circling back to cyan. This gives the orb a calm, refreshing look.
Choosing Forest wraps the orb in greens, starting from a light, fresh green and passing through deeper and darker greens before returning to a lighter shade. The overall effect is soothing and earthy, bringing the feeling of lush foliage to the orb’s glow.
For those who are drawn to purples, the Purple Dream preset moves from a soft, gentle lavender shade into a deep violet at the center, then back out to light purple, creating a dreamy and mysterious aesthetic.
With the Rose Gold option, the orb radiates with soft pink merging into rose, then intensifying into a rich crimson at its darkest, before returning through rose to pink. This colorway is warm, gentle, and a little bit luxurious.
Lastly, the Rainbow preset brings together a classic sequence of red, amber, green, blue, and purple, creating a playful and energizing effect as the orb cycles through a full spectrum.
Each preset card shows a live animated preview, so you can immediately see how your choice will look before applying it. Selecting a preset applies your choice instantly; there is no need to hit a separate save button unless you wish to, in which case the "Apply" button on each card accomplishes the same thing.
Each card shows a live preview in that gradient.
Scope: device-local
Orb settings are saved in your browser's localStorage, not on the server. That has two consequences:
- Your choice doesn't follow you to a different browser or device — sign in elsewhere and you'll see the default Harmony One preset until you pick another.
- Clearing browser storage for
heyharmony.comresets the Orb back to the default.
If you want a setting that follows you across devices, look at the Theme tab (light / dark / system mode + colour preset, also device-local) or the language and profile imagery on the Profile tab (those do follow you across devices).
