Customize your Companion
Customize how Harmony’s AI assistant interacts with you, formats its answers, and handles automated tasks.
To access these settings, click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner, select User preferences, and open the Companion tab.
Note: These settings are workspace-specific. If you belong to multiple workspaces, you will need to configure your Companion preferences for each one.
Custom Instructions
The Companion is your active AI assistant within Harmony. Unlike static reports or transcripts, the Companion is interactive and context-aware.
Custom Instructions are standing instructions that Companion applies to your interactive threads in this workspace.
Use them to tell Companion about your role, preferred style, business context, or recurring rules. For example:
- Formatting: "Always structure answers with bullet points."
- Role-playing: "Act as a Senior Product Manager."
- Language: "Always answer in Spanish, even if I ask in English."
- Focus: "Prioritize action items and deadlines over general summary."
These instructions affect Companion chat. They do not control background jobs such as transcript summaries, action-item extraction, or insight generation.
Response Style
Choose the default tone and length for the Companion's responses.
- Concise: Brief, direct answers. Best for quick facts during a live meeting.
- Detailed: Thorough explanations with context. Best for deep-dive analysis after a meeting.
- Technical: Precise, formal language. Best for engineering or compliance discussions.
- Friendly: Warm and approachable tone. Best for drafting customer-facing communications.
Auto-Approve Tools
Companion can use tools to search, read files, create notes, send emails, update tasks, and act through connected integrations.
By default, Companion asks for confirmation before actions that modify data or have side effects. You can auto-approve trusted tools by adding glob-style patterns.
Examples:
web_searchauto-approves only the web search tool.gmail_*auto-approves Gmail tools whose IDs start withgmail_.*_readauto-approves tools whose IDs end with_read.*auto-approves every matching tool and should be used with extreme caution.
Patterns are case-insensitive and can use characters such as letters, numbers, _, -, *, ?, [, and ].
Use this feature with caution. Auto-approved tools will run immediately when the Companion determines it is the right course of action.
Security Tip: If you leave this field blank, the Companion will require you to click "Confirm" for every action it attempts to take. This is the safest default.
Additional features
You may see disabled options for Auto-suggest Questions and Memory Enabled. These are marked as coming soon and do not affect Companion today.
Models are separate
The AI provider and model are configured in the separate Models tab, not on the Companion tab. Use User preferences > Models to pick your personal default model for new Companion threads in this workspace.
